This is the last landing by a Northwest aircraft at Hong Kong's Kai Tak airport. The airport closed for good that night. The poster-size print of this picture is a popular gift for retiring NWA 747 pilots. This particular aircraft is the 742nd 747 off the line for Boeing, and was delivered to NW in 1989.

The photo shows the grit , determination and excellent control on the plane, due to perhaps the most exhaustive training given to the pilot. Great angle for the picture too.

This was the first 747 I toured as a kid when my dad worked for Northwest as a mechanic. I sat in many seats including the pilots in this plane and was surprised to find it on this site. First class always looked sweet being a kid.

Beautiful livery, and of course as a Dutchman I can also appreciate the NW/KL reliability seal.
