Nice view! Brings back great memories of this great carrier, especially their DC-8's.

On November 12, 1975 I was seated in the back near 3L. On takeoff roll there was a loud bang and flames appeared on the right hand side. A flock of seagulls was ingested into number three engine. We evacuated and it was indeed a miracle we all survived. I am writing about this particle aircraft and crash in a book called "Memoirs of the Sky Girls." The newspaper headlines read "Death takes a Holiday." I really like this photo because I can see engine number three and know what happened to it. Only exits 1R and 4L could be used in the evacuation.I feel like I owe my life to this aircraft. Although the aicraft was engulfed in flames the interior remained cool allowing us to escape without panic. They say lighning doesn't strike twice. It does! Three days later we had to fly out on our other DC-10. We had to fly to Saudi Arabia for our Hadj contract. As we took off we could see just the tail engine of this aircraft. It was very eerie. You could here a pin drop on takeoff. You rationalized this could not happen again. Six weeks later , this same Dc-1031 crashed in Turkey, landing short of the runway. All 365 Turkish passengers survived! Another miracle! In ONA , as far as our DC-10 fleet was concerned, we said,"God took one and Allah took the other!"
