Nice old picture. And a very emotional story told by Stephen Halsey. Congratulations.

This photograph brings back many good memorys from when I was a little boy growing up in Newark, CA in the late 1960's when my father, Gary J. Halsey, was a lead mechanic for Pacific Airlines based at SFO. My Father often took me to the airport with him into the hangar where the planes were in diffent states of repair. I still have the form letter telling the employees that Howard Hughes had bought the airline dated April 1968, and that 2 other airlines were to merge to become "Hughes AirWest". We moved to Pheonix, AZ in the summer of 1968. Sadly, my Father died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 32 on August 3rd, 1968, so he never got to see the bright yellow planes that were soon to come online. Sadly as well is the fact that he didn't live long enough to see the first 747's that were less than 2 years away from going into service. That was all he could talk about back then. I remember it like it was yesterday. AirWest put my Mother and little sister and me along with my Father's body on a plane just like the one in the picture and it was just us, a stewardess and the pilot and co-pilot, and they flew us back to the SF bay area for my Father's burial. I remember how strange it was being in that whole plane with just us on it.. But, my Father loved aviation, and so do I to this day and I thank the photographer or whoever put this picture online like this for me to see it.. Many thanks
Sinerely,
Stephen Halsey
