The TriStars sold to California's one time favourite airline, PSA, were unique in having passenger accomodation in the lower deck where cargo/baggage normally goes, hence the FAA required mods you can see behind the nosewheel doors. Plenty of great colour photos of the Psychedelic Red and Pink scheme on this site or you can rest your eyes with this monochrome shot.

Excellent location to shoot the picture. I'm going to assume the photographer knew the nest location to capture the rotation, and I always thought that the L-1011 looked awesome on rotation. Perfect shot to me!!!

Wonderful memories, terrific photo. This is why I hate it when local carriers get "assimilated"... they just fade away.

"Catch Our Smile" was the slogan of PSA. Great picture, great airline! In eighties I flew this airline several times in California.

I was present at the show that year and this was truly one of my reasons for going. Sadly the oil crisis killed the short run of these magnificent birds. I always wondered what happened to them . I went on to live in Calif and flew PSA hundreds of times. Thanks for the memory.
