"Clipper Maid of the Seas" (Del 02/70). This airplane crashed after inflight explosion over Lockerbie, Scotland approximately 5 months after this shoot was taken. During our entire stay in the US in 1988 (7 weeks pure plane spotting) we managed to photograph Pan Am B747s twice ... once at LAX and once at MIA ... both times it was N739PA!!! R.I.P.

Excellent photo of this doomed plane. the plane is taken on the port side of the plane the three upper windows front section broke off just at the M!

Makes me want to jump into the photograph, and alter history, now that I'm in the know. Nice shot of a plane that unknown at the time had only five months left to go before having her career tragically ended. SCD conversion is clearly visible in this picture, a feature which would have likely been put to good use had she survived to see the Gulf War days...RIP.
