Frank Piasecki first flew the PV-2 on April 11, 1943, making it the second successful helicopter (after the Sikorsky VS-300) flown in the United States. Developed as a technology demonstrator, the PV-2 introduced several new features such as the first dynamically balanced rotor blades, a rigid tail rotor with a tension-torsion pitch change system, and a full cyclic and collective rotor pitch. On display in the Steven Udvar-Hazy Center.
