Oh the days of Piedmont. I remember, even earlier, pulling up to the terminal to fly to NYC or pick up visitors and the jets + props filled the tarmac:
Piedmont, Eastern, Allegheny + more. Overflow parking lots full, terminal throbbing with people...those were the days...before deregulation, before terrorism, before flying came to resemble bus travel - it was exciting, readily available and people actually 'got dressed' to fly. None of the schlubs that pack onto planes today. This era, and Piedmont in particular are sorely missed. They embodied what it meant to hop on a jet and head into the blue skies.

That fuel truck is still around -- you can see just a bit of it in http://www.airliners.net/open.file/007472/L/, still in the same Piedmont livery in 1998!

It's neat to see what it looked like with the matching airplane; I'm sure I saw it a number of times with them at the time, but I was too young to remember. The mountains in the background are the same as ever, though.
