WOW! excelent perspective! If you look at the mirror in the periscope you can acctually see the backseater looking into it. He is wearing sunglasses. Mirrors work both ways I suppose.

MIG-29 can land and take-off from almost everywhere while other fighters would need hard clear runways ... old&smart russian philosophy of war technik.

A visitor from Netherlands posted Wed August 30, 2006:
That thing above the canopy is a periscope for the backseater, so he can see the runway, looks kinda cool from the inside, a bit 1990 Star Trekkish, but interesting nonetheless.

A visitor from United States posted Thu June 22, 2006:
Nice shot and angle -- What is the purpose of the open hatch above the canopy? Ventilation?

Nice Shot

Very nice angle. Thank you for sharing that detail about the anti-FOD doors.

A visitor from Brazil posted Tue March 28, 2006:
A fantastic plane, cleverly captured here!

Answering the question from the user below: the MiG-29 has automatic anti-FOD doors in its air intakes. When they are closed, air intake is through openings above the leading edge extensions. The right side one is visible here.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue March 14, 2006:
The MiG is both strange and beautiful at the same time... are those covers on the engine intakes?
