You're right. On the ground this aircraft uses supplementary air intakes, located on the top, just above the main ones.

I like this pic because it has a tremendous light in it, it really outlines the aircraft. And, the Mig 29 is so fantastic in its fine lines and heavy energy...like a hawk. One question: Is the hatches in the air intakes closed to prevent dirt to be sucked in during taxiing? I have never seen this.
