"City of Gold Coast/Tweed" (Del 1/81) showing the wing profile in the "clean" configuration. The 747SP has a unique flap system when compared to other 747 models. The Boeing 747-1/2/3/400 series aircraft all run complicated tripe-slotted flaps while the 747SP has the relatively simple single slotted variable pivot flap system. This was required to meet the performance spec's promised by Boeing for the SP series 747's and this change shaved 12000 pounds off the weight of the SP's wing.
