Nice looking bird! Anyone know what is happening with air NZ's sharklet-320s? I thought NZ was going to be launch :S
Beautiful aircraft. Though I must say, I thing I prefer the older wingtip device. Airbus started wingtip devices long before Boeing, I'd prefer they stuck with their original designs rather than something that more closely resembles what Boeing copied.
To visitor from USA, these ARE sharklets, Airbus have written that term all over their test craft and in press releases, they ARE new and different to the Boeing desgn, I'm not an engineer so I don't know how but they are which is why they took so long to develop, also their old 'triangles' are known as 'fences' Great photo, gives the 320 a whole new profile!
To the first comment poster on this picture: They have never claimed they are 'new'. They cannot call them winglets, or blended winglets, because that is a trademark, hence they have to call them something else. There are pros and cons for each design of wingtip fence (a320, a380) and winglet (737ng, a320neo). Even Boeing has changed the winglets on the 737max to a similar design from that of the MD-11 (maybe Boeing are going backwards ?)
Airbus calls them Sharklets. Check their website.
And I took it for a Boeing 737-700. T.B.
They have actually 30 A320neo on order! And also: Very nice looking Aircraft!
If Qatar only have 1 A320 on order does this mean it will be the only aircraft in the fleet with sharklets?
Excellent its like looking at a whole new plane!
You know i used to think the a-three hundred and a-three-ten would be upgraded with folded wing tips
Looks wierd with sharklets
They are "winglets" not "sharklets." Airbus finally figured these were better than triangles on their wingtips...and claim they are new.
