A visitor from Russian Federation posted Thu September 3, 2009:This craft wasn't designed as ekranoplane - it was intended to be a VTOL craft. Presence of a strong ground effect on this plane was discovered during test flights - it was a really hard task to make this bird touch the strip! The soviet ekranoplanes (eng. "GEM" - ground effect machine) were all designed and built at the "Volga" experimental shipyards (Yes, they were considered as a ships!) by Rostislav Alexeev. | |
