A visitor from - posted Fri December 14, 2012: This is an early warning helicopter used by the navy, the slab under the helicopter is a radar and rotates down then spins around to search for targets
A visitor from United States posted Fri December 14, 2012: Nice detail, and I agree with the photographer... you can feel the chill in the air. As for the first comment, the KA-31 is an AEW platform, the "tank" you reference is actually the radar, folded and tucked up underneath.
