Russian metal rocks!

To those who arent acquainted, this unique aircraft is an amazing piece of engineering..it is one of, if not the fastest prop aircraft to date, with rumours that it could out-accelerate jet fighters like SEPCAT Jaguar..its top speed came close to many subsonic jet aircraft. Of course it also had its fair share of probs like the immense amount of noise it created. The "wierdness" of this aircraft is really a showcase of Russian engineering ingenuity and originality!!

the prop A340!

What a contrast to the 'good old days' when photos of Russian aircraft were all blurred and grainy, presumably taken by James Bond with a dodgy Brownie camera ...

Great shot in which you can clearly see the slim lines of this aircraft. Weird aircraft : no. Different : yes. That is shown very well in this picture.

I live in New Jersey, and seeing pictures of NJ Air National Guard Escorting F-106's escorting these things just a few miles off our coast while they were going down to Cuba years ago is a scary thought.

Great photo! it really shows off the shape of the aircraft... Also, those protrusions behind the wing are not just gear bays, they are also anti-shock bodies.

So pretty I can almost hear it. T.B.

"The soviets made the weidest looking planes ever!" Where did they get such crazy ideas??? Isn't one propeller enough?

A visitor from Sweden posted Mon June 5, 2006:

Yeah! This one is great. I never got the chance to see this heavy metal - never here in Brazil. Russians plans are so diferent, but also beatiful.
