Remark Photographer
NX211 (cn 29) This photo was taken on August 5, 1927 at Wilbur Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio by my great great grandfather. This particular visit of Charles Lindbergh was a scheduled stop as part of the Guggenheim Tour. If you look closely under the wing and above the head of the gentleman with his hand on the wing strut, you can clearly see Lindbergh, complete with his flying cap and goggles. I am very lucky to have inherited such a striking photo and it is my pleasure to share it with the aviation community!

Fantastic - Thanks so much for sharing this bit of history with everyone. The picture is great on its own but to know a little history behind the lens makes it even better. Your story along with David's (Gainesville, Florida) gives one a glimps of how important Charles Lindbergh was to folks during this time in US history. Again thank you.

David from Gainsville, how ironic that you tell that story, my grandparents (both sides) are from Xenia and I actually lived there for a few years after I was born. Very small world! Thank you all for the wonderful comments, it is nice to see how appreciated this photo is. There are more, but this is the best one. If any clean up ok, I will try and upload them. Thanks again!

Splendid photo. Someone said it should be photo of the year. I believe it better to say that this should be photo of a lifetime.

Wow - I am stunned beyond belief.

Here's my story: In the mid-1980's, I was having a conversation with my maternal grandfather(b. 1898). He was retired, of course, having farmed near Xenia, Ohio well into his 70s. Grandpa was a wise, astute man, who recognized early on how important the "aeroplane" might become - he stated that he knew well the history of the Wrights, and of Dayton. Anyhow...he mentioned that later in 1927, after "Lucky Lindy" flew the Atlantic, Lindbergh had visited Dayton. Grandpa, Grandma, and my Mom's oldest sister packed into their Model T, and drove the 30-odd miles to Wright Field - just on the chance that they might see a bit of history. They didn't get on the Field, but they did see this famous aircraft in flight. As Grandpa said, with a smile on his face and a faraway look in his eyes: "Oh, I wish that I had had a camera!"

Thank you, J.R.Davis, for, in a way, making Grandpa's wish come true.

Thanks for sharing this great piece of history Mr Davis! Looks like the guy was helping Lindbergh taxiing to a stop as there was no front facing windows on his plane. The engine was still running!
