Remark Photographer
9V-SMC (cn 24063/736) Inspired by Mr. Hunt, I couldn't resist any longer to dig up a real Kai Tak shot. After spending some days on the building for the famous banking shots, I decided to go elsewhere. I found another nice roof and after a while, I was accompanied by a guy. Years later on, I discovered that it was Alan Tsui when I saw his photo on this site and which can be seen here. Compare and you'll find out that everything is similar....

Yes the a330 was flying in 1998, check wikipedia,
i was the pilot who flew that plane in, i remember it was very tense, the passengers, most were hongkees but were still scared, my co-pilot was very jitterish and so i did the landing, was a hard one, but we made it down

A visitor from New Zealand posted Tue December 21, 2010:
I like how the plane is unaligned to the runway. It is a marvellous photo and at great timing. It shows you just how dangerous airports can be, while showing the aspirations of flight

A visitor from United States posted Thu November 18, 2010:
Did Kai Tak ever have any landing accidents? Was the A330 flying in 1998?

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Mon May 3, 2010:
I would have ruined my pants sitting in that plane but that's what made Kai Tak unique. Unfortunately I never saw it with my own eyes. Great, classic moment in aviation.

A visitor from United States posted Sun July 19, 2009:
Now, this is an outstanding shot of a 747 trying to make a crosswind landing. I wonder if the passengers onboard the jumbo jet crapped and wee weed in their undies. If I were onboard that aircraft, it would sure scare the hell outta me!

A visitor from Germany posted Wed April 16, 2008:
Lucky great shot!1 of a million! The pilot must of made a go around!

A visitor from Thailand posted Wed April 16, 2008:
I have been traveling Southeast Asian countries late 70s and facinated every time whenever I land Kai Tak airport. Some time captain likes steep turn and try to pick laundry on the top of building up right before landing. All were good memory now. I lost a chance to land on there after wards but my wife stopped over for transit on the way back to Tokyo but she had to suffer mess on the way to BKK because of opening of new airpot, Cheprak Kok(?).

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri November 24, 2006:
A bit of good aileron and rudder work needed here.
Another 200 tonne giant about to slam into the runway sideways.
Just another day in Kai Tak!!

A visitor from Philippines posted Wed October 19, 2005:
The captain of this plane should smoothly correct his heading to the runway

A visitor from United States posted Thu August 25, 2005:
The pilot is so far off centerline making this photo very dramatic. What due u think the captain of the A-330 is thinking?

A visitor from United States posted Mon August 22, 2005:
I believe the timing and angle are perfect. It almost looks like if it had been taken from another airplane...Was It?
