Taken from the Control Tower at Gatwick, during my work experience from school, with National Air Traffic Services. Little over a year later, on 17th July 1996, operating as TWA800 from New York (JFK) to Paris (CDG), she blew up, shortly after departure, off the coast of Long Island, with all 230 on board perishing. The cause, thought to be wiring shorting out in the central fuel tank. This picture is in memory of those victims. Scanned from a print.

Cracking picture that - real shame that you don't see many of these birds flying out of LGW like it was back in the glory days, and as always, such a tragedy about losing it in such a horrific accident too. I was only a baby when that crashed
