When I took this shot on a bright sunny day back in 1990 I could never have imagined the tragic fate that awaited this aircraft. On 17th July 1996 it exploded in mid air 12 minutes after take-off from JFK, killing all 230 souls on board.

Aircraft: N93119 (741). Route: JFK-CDG. 212 Passengers & 18 Crew Members. At around 8:31 p.m., few minutes after take off, the plane's fuel tank sparked and exploded in mid-air off Long Island. The plane disintegrated and plunged into the Atlantic Ocean.
