Very unfortunate. The loss of life comes first and it comes very close for some as we can see from the contributor from the United States below me. But the loss of this beautiful airliner is something to regret as well, and startles me... because it was only weeks ago that I learned about the 1956 Grand Canyon mid-air collision of TWA L-1049 N6902C, a sistership of this magnificent aircraft. It seems they were really not blessed, these TWA standard Connies... | |
A photograph of historic significance for our family as my uncle Richard Bitters of Athens, Ohio, was on this very ill-fated plane on December 16, 1960 as it prepared to land in New York and was struck by a United Airlines jet. This plane changed our family's life forever and left a widow with three young children. Thus, to see a photo of this beautiful plane brings to mind many memories from the past.
