A visitor from United Kingdom posted Mon September 21, 2009:Its not on fire. Looks like a surge. There wouldn't be a fire indication in the cockpit, just fluctuations in engine parameters accompanied by bangs/vibration. Reverse may have been selected on all engines, probably wise if aborting a take-off, but if the crew identified the engine with the fluctuations, it would have been left at idle reverse, with normal or max reverse selected on the other three. But we don't know what speed the abort decision was made. If early, at low speed, idle reverse is all that would be required (subject to Transaero's SOPs of course).

A visitor from New Zealand posted Mon September 21, 2009:Excellent capture! What I can't understand, is why the engine is still operating if it's malfunctioning, and why he's deployed the reverser while it's on fire. Not a great thing for 2009's day of 11 Sep.
