A few things... firstly, it has no boom because only the US Air Force use booms, no one else does. Secondly, the two HDUs (Hose Drum Units) have yet to be fitted, they will be where engines 1 and 4 would be in an A340. Thirdly, the windows will remain in place because this a multi-role tanker, so it can be used for troop transport, much like the VC10 C1K - the existing fuel tanks will be used for the refuelling role.

If this is a Tanker where is the refueling boom and why all the windows ????

Nice picture, but such a shame to see L1011 and VC10 on their way out. End of an era.

Nice to see the first one in full colors.

It has no boom, like the british VC10 and L1011-tankers, because all RAF planes are refueled with the Probe-and-Drogue system.

They should've used the ID F-MRTT. Would be much more symbolic.

Schouldn't it have a refueling boom ?

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat June 27, 2009:
Brilliant to see the RAF buying some modern transport planes!

Though, the VC10 does it for me every time :D

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat June 27, 2009:
So this is replacing the VC-10?

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri June 26, 2009:
Nice! But you cant beat a VC10! Old but still the best!
