XP439 (cn 6771) The last Argosies in the RAF served with 115 Sqn at RAF Benson, used for radar and nav-aid calibration. Nine C.1s were converted to E.1 spec in 1971 for the task, and they served until 1978 when they were replaced by Andovers. One of the squadron’s aircraft is seen here in the summer of 1975 on short finals to Runway 27 at Fairford, then the BAC Concorde flight test centre. BAC was nationalized at the time so Fairford was in effect a government establishment.
