The Vulcan is an aircraft that has to be seen in person to believe, big, broad and beautiful! This shot gives one an idea of its size and unique shape, and will make viewers look for more information. I was in awe of this a/c at a USAF airshow while serving, and still am!
Amazing capture of this spirited departure, must have been etched on atending public. What are the different lids covering the number 3 and 4 engines compared to #1-2? Frank from BUE - E01
Beautiful photo of a beautiful plane... Excellent.
I gotta chuckle when I read comments such as "Amazing quality for a pic taken over 40 years ago". Undoubtedly posted by a "20 or 30 something". My grandfather was a photographer in the Signal Corp and I have 3 albums full of EXCELLENT fotos of WW ONE (1914-1917)
Amazing quality! This picture was taken over 40 years ago and is of amazing quality, much better than anything I've ever taken! A Five Star shot for sure!
With the recent return to flight of a Vulcan, sounds and sights like this excellent, evocative picture will be experienced again. Alex Christie's excellent photos from decades past, are an outstanding collection.
Love the contrasts here: the way the sunlight catches the underside of the aircraft against interesting sky/cloud colours. This nuclear bomber appears graceful, peaceful even; an object of beauty. Dark smoke from the engines only hints at the ear-shattering noise which must have accompanied the flypast, and on closer inspection the aircraft's bomb bay doors are dead centre, but closed: the faintest reminder of the Vulcan's true purpose.
Amazing! I just can't believe the scan quality.
Amazing quality for a picture that is over 40 years old! This photograph really captures the speed and power of a Vulcan, you can almost hear the 4 Olympus engines roaring!
Great light, very evocative shot.
Beautiful plane. This shot looks awesome with the dark sky backdrop.
