Remark Photographer
W4041 / G One of the most important aircraft in aviation history: The very first ever allied jet-powered aircraft to fly. Developed amid great secrecy in the Gloucestershire countryside, safely away from German bombing. The aircraft used the jet engine invented by Sir Frank Whittle. The first flight on 15-May-1941 was followed by many successful trials. When development was passed onto the Meteor, this pioneering aircraft was retired to its present home, the Science Museum, arriving April-1946.
