Remark Photographer
P3175 / DF-S (cn Unknown) This Hurricane was delivered to 257 Sqdn on 9th August 1940. At 0825 on 31st August PO Gerard Maffet took off in P3175 from Martlesham Heath to intercept a formation of Bf-110 and Ju-88. P3175 was hit forcing PO Maffet to bale out at low altitude and, tragically, his parachute did not open in time. In 1973 the remains of P3175 were recovered, cleaned and donated to the RAF Museum and serve as a very poignant reminder of the sacrifice made by 'the few'..
