ZA147 / F (cn 882) VC-10 from No 101 Squadron of the Royal Air Force departing from RIAT 2009. Unit operates with the Vickers VC-10 C1Ks, K3s and K4s from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire. The RAF bought second-hand civil Vickers VC-10 aircraft for conversion to aerial refueling aircraft and this unit formed at Brize on 1 May 1984. Notable recent deployments of 101 Squadron include the Gulf War, Operations Northern & Southern Watch, Operation Allied Force in Kosovo, Operation Desert Fox, Afghanistan, and the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The VC-10 aircraft will be retired by 2014, and will be replaced by the Airbus A330 tanker.
