I took this 41 years ago (aged 11) with a Kodak Instamatic. The Jet Provost (delivered 16 March 61) from the Central Flying School at nearby RAF Little Rissington had suffered an engine problem and its crew, Flt Lt Francis and Flt Lt Foster, had ejected near Northleach. The aircraft had subsequently flown on about five miles and had made a relatively gentle landing in a stubble field between Aldsworth and Coln-St-Aldwyns. (The smoke in the sky is from burning stubble and nothing to do with the crash.)

Great shot, MB! I took a similar shot when I was a bit older, perhaps 14 or 15, of an F4U-5 Corsair. I'm gonna have to look for it! -rsa 01-27-2010

Splendid image, I remember watching the provosts from Rissington, I believe the Red Pelicans were based there for a time.
What make 'Mr Italy' say it is a fake?

Excellent photo - this is the first time I have seen this in colour, I remember seeing a different angle in black and white when I was younger. My father was Flt Lt Francis, and I would have been a few months old at the time. I know that although the ejection did hurt his back he was back flying again - he led the Red Pelicans two years later in 1971.
