Two of the RAF’s C-130Ks are seen here at Lyneham in 2009, by which time most were no longer airworthy. This one had a flat mainwheel tyre and probably wouldn’t fly again. As the highest mileage analogue C-130 fleet in the world, the RAF ones encountered fatigue problems that necessitated modifications to prolongue their airframe lives. The unmodified ‘J’s are using up their airframe lives even thought they are much newer. The first replacement A400Ms are due to arrive at Brize Norton in 2015.
