An ex-111 Sqn F.3 sees the last of daylight as it is pushed into the RTP hangar at RAF Leeming on a grey February day. Under a contract with BAe Systems, the RAF Tornado F.3 fleet is being progressively ‘reduced to produce’ (RTP), with each aircraft being stripped of spares and components that can be used to support the GR.4 fleet, the minimal remaining carcass being scrapped. Each aircraft takes eighteen days to go through the process, which is saving the MoD a considerable sum on GR.4 support.
