The Provost was built to fulfill the RAF's demand for a high-performance piston-engined trainer for new jet fighter pilots. 461 Provosts were built between 1953 and 1959. The design later evolved into the Jet Provost trainer. On display at the excellent Gatwick Aviation Museum next to one of the museum's two Shackletons (WR974) and various other exhibits.
