The first jet-powered seaplane ever built. Three of the amazing SR.1.A flying-boats were built by Saunders-Roe. One crashed into an object floating in the Solent and another was lost during aerobatic exercises. This one was flown both in military trials and later in civil use. The SR.1.A was the first British aircraft to be fitted with production ejection-seat (made by Martin-Baker) and the only aircraft to use the Metrovick Beryl axial flow jet engine - both on display next to the aircraft.
