Originally delivered to the School of Aerial Fighting at Marske, Yorkshire. The Sopwith Triplane was used in combat by the Royal Naval Air Service fighter squadrons on the Western Front during WW1. The Germans were so impressed they requested their own triplane be designed to try and defeat the British. Within two years the triplane concept was eclipsed by more modern and efficient biplane designs. The frequently-quoted "cn" 8385M is actually its allocated RAF maintenance serial.
