Built in Eastleigh, Hampshire as number 156 of the very first batch of 174 Mk1 Spitfires ever built. This remains the oldest surviving Spitfire in the world. Powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin II engine, she took her first flight on 21-Apr-1939 and saw active service in World War II until 05-Jun-1940 including downing Ju87s over Dunkirk. Passed to RAF Museum Hendon on 09-Nov-1971 and eventually moved to Cosford on 15-Nov-2002.
