Can't deny the grace of the VC-10. Gloriously captured here. I'm glad the RAF has extended her in-service life by a few more years. She's a lovely sight with the blueness of a pleasant day, despite the mis-match of shades of grey on fuselage. Probably a sign that she's too busy to be worried about cosmetics, the VC-10's are workhorses in global RAF operations.

Seen XV105 many times here in BZE....now that the MoD has moved to civilian charters for the most part, I miss seeing them scream off the runway

That's a refueling pod, containing the pipe reel and the drogue. The fan is the hydraulical/elecrtical generator.

I assume you mean the air to air refueling pods. The fan is to help retract the hose and help with fuel delivery. Great photo.

An exguisite photo! I'd give this more than 5 stars if it were possible. I seem to recall seeing BOAC VC-10's at LAX oh so many years ago, though I realize I might be mistaken. Thanks for posting this photo Chris...

It is nice to see that a huge classic airplane is still in service with the RAF. It certainly recalls the times when VC-10`s wore the BOAC colors. Undoubtedly, a 5-star picture

Attractive aircraft. But my brain still thinks magic is the only possible thing holding the outboard engines on.
