Part of a group of three cannibilised carcasses of RAF VC10s, retired within weeks of each other at the end of 2005, seen at East Site, RAF St Athan, in April 2006. On the left is XR810, the fifth of the original fourteen C.1s delivered to 10 Squadron between 1966 and 1968. ZD240 was Super VC10 G-ASGL before acquisition by the RAF in the early ‘eighties.

This photograph shows that even the death of an aircraft can be a sad thing, from flying beauty (i flew in g-asgl before she retired from ba), to pile of scrap.
