The Westland Lysander was an absolutely brilliant aircraft during the late stages of World War II. Painted matt black and operating on moonless nights, they would fly from secret airfields in England, into France, often landing in the dark in agricultural fields. Their clandestine mission was to return downed air crews and smuggle agents in and out of France. In this role their performance was unsurpassed. This fine example preserved at Imperial War Museum Duxford.
