Aircraft Taken at More: USA - Air Force More: Boeing B-29 Superfortress More: Off-Airport - Bomber Glacier More: USA - Alaska, August 5, 2006 Remark Photographer 44-70039 (cn 10871) My first hike to Bomber Glacier in 2006. This is an aft view of the B-29, with the tail gunner's cabin still intact. The left wing has broken off and lies on top of the fuselage. A visitor from - posted Tue June 10, 2008: The tailpiece appears rather intact. Did the turret crewman survive? If so, the conditions must have been torturous, or perhaps...not? It's a story to be told.
A visitor from United States posted Sun February 10, 2008: USAF B-29 that crashed on Nov. 17, 1957 killing 6 out of the 10 onboard. 4 survivors waited 2 days before being rescued. Offcial military write-up says it was a radar calibration mission, declassified info says they were surveying the Russians. RIP....God bless.
