A visitor from United States posted Sun December 9, 2007: Great photo. The C-5's are "A" models and are too expensive to maintain. A small country could not afford to properly maintain a C-5 they are VERY expensive! If i remember when I used to fly them it was around 15 grand per flying hour. These aircraft are now serving to keep the remaining A's and B models flying. As stated they will be completely stripped and scrapped. The b-1's are 1983 and 84 model aircraft. Also too expensive to upgrade or continue to fly. They did just bring one aircraft out 86-0097 which I used to work on so there is hope!
A visitor from United States posted Tue August 21, 2007: Relax everyone, the airframes in this photo have either surpassed their airframe hours or are considered excess to need. The parts surely aren't wasted as I receive parts from here every week to keep our C-130 and A-10's in the air. The C-5's will be stripped of all usable parts and help keep the active fleet in the air. Believe me, i've been an Air Force maintainer for nearly 20 years and it sadens me to see any aircraft meet the scrappers torch!

A visitor from United States posted Fri June 23, 2006: Wat a sad sight all of those aircraft just rotting away. i agree w. the other comments, SELL THEM! its amazing wat our armed forces waste. i also spot some T-38s and T-37s a few F-16s 2 C-2 greyhounds some sea stallion helicopters and a C-141! GEEZE!!

Our Airforce here in New Zealand has I think: 5 C-130, 6 P-4Orions, 2 B757, a few kingairs and are selling off a dozen A-4Skyhawks and a dozen Airmacchi jet trainers. Thats it! In this photo there is 30 times our Airforce right there! if not more!

Maybe the Air Force doesnt want them but how bout selling or donating them to an Air Force like mine, The New Zealand air force doesnt even have a combat wing, how sad is that!?
A visitor from United States posted Thu April 6, 2006: Actually, a lot of those plane's critical parts are covered in a type of plastic called spraylat so that if the need arises, they can be used again. Some actually are put back into service, or sold to other countries. Great picture though.

A visitor from United States posted Sun March 12, 2006: If I'm not mistaken, the aircraft pictured are not being sent to the butcher immediately... The aircraft storage facilities have different levels of storage. I think the level pictured is Class 3 or something to that affect which means the AF can bring them back into service at any time. Nice pic though!
