84-0059 (cn 500-0083) Shot I wish I never had the oppurtunity to take. Please keep the crew of this C5 in your thoughts. From what I've heard every person seated in the nose section (which you can see is perpendicular to the rest of the aircraft) has a broken back.

I happened to be one of the investigators in this mishap. Too bad the crew failed to follow proper procedures. If they had this tragedy would have never happened. I'm very glad everyone got out alive all the same.

A visitor from United States posted Sat December 22, 2007:
This happened the week after I separated from DAFB. The story I got was that #3 was shut down due to fire indication on climb out although it was probably indication only. Then #4 ingested a flock of birds and shut down as the crew was on final approach to the field for repairs on #3

A visitor from United States posted Thu August 30, 2007:
They throttled the wrong engine and did one big mistake, over estimating their distance to the runway. I fly the C-5 and it seems that they had flaps down too long while bordering stall. at 3,500 nm, they had flaps at 30 with 162kts speed. They also became disroriented and didnt know where they were.I would say it was the flying crew's fault nevertherless, I hope they recover soon.

A visitor from United States posted Fri July 27, 2007:
I just wanted to let you all know that the crash was controlled and it was fully the crews fault that this happened. I used to be the ACC on this bird. This is the outcome when you try to throttle up the wrong engine.

A visitor from United States posted Wed September 6, 2006:
Of course when you have an engine failure and then keep trying to use the failed engine instead of the good engines this can happen. I think I would request some different "angels" next time.

A visitor from United States posted Tue June 27, 2006:
This shot is so vivid that it is easy to visualize the path this dying bird took in the last few seconds of life.my God bless those who commanded her.

A visitor from Turkey posted Thu May 25, 2006:
It was goning to Spain, not Kuwait. It had a gross weight over 700,000lbs at take off and crashed only 10 minutes later.

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 16, 2006:
Those ppl onboard were lucky. Angels were watching over them.

A visitor from United States posted Sun April 16, 2006:
Everyone but one ended up with minor injuries in this one. I am sure though they will all have back problems for the rest of their lives. Miracle all survived.

A visitor from France posted Sat April 15, 2006:
Nice picture... It make me sad to see a broken aircraft... I love the Chrysler PT Cruiser under this plane.... ;)

A visitor from Brazil posted Sat April 15, 2006:
Nice fhoto, congratulations...

A visitor from United States posted Fri April 14, 2006:
Lucky indeed that it didn't catch fire! I'm glad everyone inside survived. That's one tough aircraft!

A visitor from United States posted Fri April 14, 2006:
"Three were taken by helicopter to Christiana Hospital, some with possible spinal injuries"

http://www.airforcetimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-1664881.php

Keep in mind all the information at the time of my posting of this photo was some what unreliable, I was only saying what I had heard. My current understanding is that the three seated in the nose section all broke a vertabrea bone (a bone in your back).

A visitor from United States posted Thu April 13, 2006:
All the crew was released from local hospitals for minor injuries within four days of the accident. As a DSP (Delaware State Police) pilot I had to opportunity to transport a few of the crew.

If I'm not mistaken, it was fully loaded with enough fuel for a flight to Kuwait...

A visitor from United States posted Thu April 13, 2006:
I have done numerous searches for news on this, not one mentions anyone having a broken back and that everyone was either in fair condition or uninjured, on 4/12 only one was still in hospital, that is not consistent with everyone in the front having a broken back, can you provide a link to a news that describes that.

A visitor from United States posted Thu April 13, 2006:
Looks like the aircraft broke it's back too! I hope they all recover quickly, and fly again.

A visitor from Canada posted Thu April 13, 2006:
I gave this picture a one star only because of what happened to the crew. My regards to the family and friends of the crew and I hope that the crew recover as soon as poosible. Sad to hear this :(

A visitor from United States posted Thu April 13, 2006:
After looking at this picture, it's amazing that there was no loss of life. Hats off to the crew. After all, alive with broken back is better than dead.

A visitor from Canada posted Thu April 13, 2006:
The C-5 is a very strong aircraft. The crew are lucky that the C-5 didn't catch fire they're also luckey that the nose broke off in the crash so if the C-5 did catch fire they would be a little farther away from the flames. I hope the crew gets better soon:)

Either way you look at it, that's a controlled crash. You don't see to many of those. Awesome pilot skills and brute force engineering. Glad to hear that all will heal in time and nobody is headed to the grave. Thank goodness!!

A visitor from United States posted Thu April 13, 2006:
I can't wait to read the accident report about this incident/accident. A complete miracle that there was no fire. Thank God everyone survived. The aircraft wreakage looks like there was lateral rotation on impact. This picture is certainly worth a thousand words.

Lockheed is amongst them if not the best of them all.
