I was on this Cruise, and have many pics similar to this one! I was a Final Checker of VFA-41 of CVW-11 onboard CVN-68. I was like what a great Navy photo, wait a minute. I recognize our bird right next to El 1. I see the Ravens, Tophatters, and Shrikes in the foreground. Funny I can't zoom in, but I might even be leaning on our jet in this pic, where the three people are. Great Photo!!! Too bad we didnt make it to Hobart or Brisbane! Perth was great though!

Not only a "good eye" of the photographer, but brings back many memories of launching off the pointy end of a carrier. I just wish they had all been with with a "Commander's" moon rather than no moon!

A visitor from New Zealand posted Wed November 1, 2006:

Yes, this eerie shot reminds me of the "Final Countdown", at the time that movie came out, I had two young sons, we watched that movie hundreds of times... one of my sons ended up in the Navy, flying aircrew in ES-3's in the Gulf, the other one flies a E-3A's (AWACS) in the Air Force !
