An amazing photo catching the power from the engines on an amazing aircraft
Very intense best 1960s jet made buy skunksworth ever
What sexy thrust!! You could cook a steak on that :) and the undercarriage is being retracted really early after takeoff! Nice :D
I can only accept them withdrawing from operating these old fast birds in one condition: Build new ones. And Aurora, too
Witness the raw power of this aeronautical marvel!
Is that you Jetfire? ;) Best aircraft for me
That is the best picture i have seen.
This is the most beautiful aircraft that i ever seen. It´s look like a space ship taken from "star wars" movie. Maybe this is not is good angle, but... it´s a very beautiful machine anyway.
When the dream becomes reality ... it's an american dream one of the greatest plane ever
I find no words...Blackbird at full thrust take off. Anything else? Yes,pls, keep 'em flying!
Sweet! I like the red exhaust.
I love the afterburner, thats the best part. And i love this plane, the most amazing plane ever. I alson have pics of it and it is on my FSX game
Awesome picture. This SR71 is on static display outdoors at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. I have walked around it many times. Kind of sad to see it out cooking in the sun for years on end.
Excellent photograph, really captures the power of the Blackbird, the orange of the reheat stands out. I was there that day and can remember very clearly its startling acceleration.
Awesome, awesome picture just everything about it is great.
Probably the best aircraft ever built i dont think we will see any like this again in this life time the skunkworks did an absolutely amazing job with the slide ruler no computer aided design work here
Nice view of the engines and after burners. perfect lighting.
Awesome image | |
Wooow!! blinking cool afterburners!
The blackbird is nothing less than 5 stars itself. This photo like any other of the SR71 is a trribute to all those who have pushed the boundaries of aviation.
Still out of this world, even today!
This jet is so fast it takes about 5 states to turn full speed, outstanding pic the afterburners makes the pic so awsome
Photo taken over 20 years ago with a regular camera! Excellent quality and moment! Not everyday and everywhere you can see this beautiful Black Bird today. I have seen it only once in my life in the Museum of Flight in Seattle. Five stars!
Very dramatic, rare daytime takeoff photo of the timeless Blackbird.
Way to go Kelly Johnson and Skunkworks!!
The SR71 is a tough jet to fly. This picture is excellent because not only is the clarity very good but it's showing some major rudder deflection.
Coooooooooooooool!i love it!
This is my favorite plane and this photo is very nice
WOW! This is cool, the after burner is like so long! Wonder what would happen if there was grass near by.
What a beautiful shot. I love the afterburners.
Its rare to get a picture of an SR-71 taking off at full afterburner... a real treat.
Fantastic pic of the old bird.
Wow, great shot! | |
Blackbird in reheat is always going to be 5 stars
Would you like your runway regular or extra-crispy? :-)
Great photo | |
If only these moments could come back... priceless!!
Fotos is super | |
Great picture | |
Cooooooooooooool | |
What an afterburner !! Awesome ! Fantastic heat blur, dramatic shot... And very nice quality for an argentic photo ! Next time, please order nice weather ! :-)
Lockheed has made some amazing planes, but the Blackbird is one of my favorites. It's an absolute classic in all time.
Just brilliant... Nothing more to say than: the US more particularly Lockheed have always been the best in the military market! Don't come and talk about Airbus and those stupid Russian stuff. Definitely US airplane makers are due to be the best for at least the next few decades perhaps centuries.
I don't know about you aviation fans out there but to me, this Thing still looks Very 21st. century-ish despite it's premature retirement from the USAF more than ten years ago. Every angle of this venerable bird screams Blazing Speed. Thank You Derek, for sharing a Great photo.

Of course, this shot is "non digital era" and you can easyly notice the "pattern of the photo paper" threw the scan processus... But you know what ? It's a Blackbird while taking-off ! And I would pay to see that in real !!! Great bird, long after-burner, light banking and gear begining to be retracted : a powerful composition. 5 stars, no less.
Great tribute to Kelly Johnson and all of Skunk Works
What a great shot of a fantastic aircraft.
Nice picture, the afterburner effects looks awesome. I will definitely buy one of those when i become a multi billionaire. At least if i can persuade The USAF to sell one :). By the way, my father knows the guy who survived exiting one of those in mach 3+ or whatever it was.
My personal favorite! wish they'd still fly...
Wow. That thing looks OLD
Awesome shot! The SR-71 has always been one of my favorites planes.
