I have seen the SR-71 in flight and I can say in the sky it always looks much larger than I expect it would, even though I was already familiar with its dimensions. When it banks hard over and you can see the upper planform cutting through a blue sky with small, puffy white clouds, it looks absolutely & positively other-worldly, just totally alien.
This photo is the VERY BEST I've seen of one (and I have seen & taken many photos of them). The absence of national markings, numbers, etc, only adds to the mystique. 10 stars to the photographer, to Ben Rich & most of all - to Mr. Kelly Johnson. Thank you for sharing this Mr. Freer. An exceptionally good shot of an exceptional machine.

Wow, you don't see many photos of the blackbird in the air - let alone as stunning and high quality as this. It's a real treat!

I use to "watch" this plane take off when i was a kid in Okinawa...friggin amazing!!
