If you thought this plane was an expensive white elephant, WITH, the air-to-air fuel-up, just think what it would have cost to try and develope a fuel that would power the engines, maintain it's altitude, AND it's amazing speed; WELL !!For the record, over half of the planes development funds went into it's fuel!! Besides with it's ability to travel randomly around the planet,(unlike a spy satellite) at amazing height's it took many pic's of terrorist camps while they were totally unaware.
Wow! It's a shame we don't have the sound...
And best budget money waster. This unique plane uses unique fuel by unique price. It's flight envelope includes take off with empty tanks and air refuelling. It is true White Elefant.
Usa aircraft should always be the best in the world. best design, best engingeering, best everything?
Anybody at FFD on that practice day in 1985 witnessed the truly awsome power of a Habu unleased . I can still remember those diamond afterburner shockwaves .BLACKBIRDS FOREVER .

That's what I've wanted to see, a Blackbird in flight, great shot
