Amid the crowd of home-based VA-205 Green Falcons A-6E's and KA-6D's is this visiting tanker from sister squadron Attack 304 Firebirds all the way from NAS Alameda, CA. The first Navy Reserve unit to transition to Intruders (1988) from the A-7E Corsair II, the Firebirds stood down the same time the Green Falcons did in 1994; the rest of the Intruder community was gone by mid-1997. Hi-viz color schemes were deemed essential for tankers so colorful Navy planes lingered into the 1990's.
