Mea culpa - boy, did I screw up on my previous post. I guess that I had VA-82 on the brain. Should read "two A-6Es of VA-35 Black Panthers". OOPS.
Also pictured - two A-7Cs of VA-82 Marauders (my squadron in the late '70s-early '80s) and two A-6Es of VA-82 Black Panthers. Sorry to say, but I don't know where the VF squadrons usually assigned to Carrier Air Wing 8 were for this cruise, but fighter cover is ably provided by F-4Js of VF-103 Sluggers (CVW-3/USS Saratoga) and VF-213 Black Lions (CVW-11/USS Kitty Hawk). This was the last cruise that CVW-8 made onboard USS America, before globetrotting with USS Nimitz for the next 13 years.
