157312 / LR-3 The saga of the bogus markings of the special model Orions seen at Keflavkik is now coming to a close. There were only three more sightings by me including this one as in 1985 the squadron markings and almost all identifying markings were removed from operational P-3s. Here however the VPU-1 specialists are once more trying to make this aircraft look like a P-3C and doing a rather good job. The nose camere has been replaced by the retractable Infra Red Detection System now retrofitted to most of the Cs. The two small windows in the rear fuselage are painted on. Then prtruding sonobuoy chutes are easily visible. But then comes what certainly makes it a B model. The fin top antenna is missing and the wire antennas from the fin top to the fuselage are wrong for the C-model, as can be seen comparing the the VP-16 tail in the background.
