A visitor from United States posted Sun December 4, 2005:Excellent photo! The hanger in the picture is no longer standing. It was demolished last year and there is a new hanger that is just about completed for mine countermeasures (HM-14) The hanger next to the one shown was also demolished and another hanger (for the helicopters this time) is in its final stages of completion for HM-14's MH-53E Sea Dragon Helos. A lot of history at this base is being demolished to make way for newer hangers, it was sad to watch those hangers being torn down! This flight line is now full of MH-53E's and 2 variants of the H-60, and the last 2 H-3 Sea Kings in Norfolk. The Sea Kings are going the way of the Martin P5M-2 Marlin and are being replaced by the newer MH-60S's. | |
