Nice history! Congrats!
Ah, the memories... VA (VFA) 86 was the sister squadron of my squadron (VA-82 Marauders) from the time of their establishment in May of 1967 until VFA-82 was disestablished in September of 2005. 82 and 86 flew A-7s until 1987, when they transitioned to the F/A-18C. They made many cruises together aboard the USS America (CV-66), Coral Sea (CV-43), Nimitz (CVN-68), John F. Kennedy (CV-67), Constellation (CV-64) and George Washington (CVN-73). I was a part of VA-82 between 1979 and 1982, based at NAS Cecil Field, Florida, and making three cruises aboard USS Nimitz.
