'Balls-Eight' - Still flying at 49 years of age! I worked on this beauty in the early '80's at Carswell AFB (now JRB Dallas) and still get thrills seeing it fly! Fly on BUFF!

Wonderful seeing the B-52H looking so good! Was this a fly-by at a B-1B retirement? (Ha ha ha) What a classic low-slow-light approach. The wings generate so much lift with the flaps down, you actually fly her in a nose-down attitude to fly level, not to mention descent.

Just a slight correction to the one commenter, this aircraft would be called 10-oh-eight because it is 61-0008. Balls eight would be 60-0008. But you're right this aircraft was at Carswell starting in about '83 I think when we retired the D models and I think I got to ride on her for an incentive flight.

To correct an earlier poster: 52s are flown in a nose-low attitude because the wing is canted at about a 7-degree angle-of-incidence relative to the fuselage. The reason for this design quirk is that the BUFF's quadricycle landing gear configuration prevents any sort of takeoff rotation; the B-47 used a long forward landing gear strut to achieve the same end.
