An "R"model tanker climbs away from the Griffiss runway during a session of closed traffic patterns. It belongs to the 41st Air Refueling Sqn., which for decades came under the co-located 416th Bombardment Wing but now answers to the geographically separated 380th ARW at Plattsburgh AFB on Lake Champlain. The new Air Mobility Command insignia (merely a re-titled Military Airlift Command badge) is visible on the nose, and the finish is the short-lived Baby Shamu scheme (derived from the older KC-10 c/s).
